Madagascar Mangrove Project
Through this project, we have planted hundreds of thousands of trees to restore critical ecosystems, including coastal mangroves that stabilize shorelines and protect communities from increasingly severe storms.

Project Location
The project took place in a country where 90% of native forests have been destroyed. Efforts also included the restoration of land within two National Park systems and revitalization of coastal mangroves and estuarine fishing grounds—specifically benefitting communities and ecosystems on an island where 90% of the animal and plant life is endemic and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Project Goals
The aim of the project was to make a tangible impact on both the environment and local communities through reforestation. The core goals were:
- To restore degraded landscapes
- To uplift local livelihoods through employment
- To protect biodiversity in areas severely affected by deforestation
This included reforesting highly deforested regions, providing stable employment to hundreds of villagers, and protecting endemic flora and fauna through conservation and restoration efforts.
Project Impact
Through this project:
- Thousands of trees were planted to restore critical ecosystems, including coastal mangroves that stabilize shorelines and protect against increasingly severe storms.
- Steady employment and income were provided to 70 individuals who previously had little or no financial stability, significantly improving their families' well-being.
- An essential fish nursery and key fishing ground in the estuary were revitalized, directly supporting marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of Malagasy fishers.
- Land restoration within two National Parks is contributing to the protection of endangered and endemic species, helping ensure that wildlife found nowhere else in the world can thrive.
This initiative is about more than just planting trees—it is about restoring ecological balance, securing livelihoods, and building a more resilient future for both people and nature. With this milestone achieved, the commitment to scaling impact and driving long-term change continues.
